Power Search...For a Cause

Shoebuy.com and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation have teamed up to offer shoe lovers a unique way to help fight breast cancer. During the month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness month, online shoppers who buy pink shoes or pink accessories can take advantage of the Shoebuy's ‘Power Search… For a Cause’ initiative, to call attention to a disease that is diagnosed within the U.S.’ population once every three minutes. During the month, for every Shoebuy.com customer who purchases a pair of pink shoes or a pink accessory, 10% of the retail price will be donated to the Komen Foundation. Additionally, if two pink items -- shoes and/or accessories -- are purchased, 11% of their aggregate retail sales price will be donated, and if three pink items –shoes and/or accessories -- are purchased, 12% of their retail price will be donated. For shoppers’ convenience, Shoebuy.com has featured an exclusive ‘Power Search…For a Cause’ web page, www.shoebuy.com/sb/power-search.jsp, allowing consumers to view more than 500 pink products all from top brands. To ensure the program’s success, Shoebuy.com will donate a guaranteed minimum of $10,000 to the Komen Foundation. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women. This year more than 213,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women and men in the US, and more than 41,000 will die from the disease. Thankfully, the breast cancer death rate has been dropping about 2% annually since 1990 in all women combined, and even more rapidly in women younger than 50 years old. The decline is attributed to early detection through screening, increased awareness and improved treatment and increased funding. Breast Cancer death
Common Breast Cancer Myths

The first myth pertaining to this disease is that it only affects women.

Second myth that is associated with this disease is that if one has found a lump during an examination, it is cancer.

Third is that it is solely hereditary

The next myth associated with breast cancer is downright ridiculous. Would you believe, that in this day and age, some individuals still think that breast cancer is contagious?

Conversely, some individuals foolishly believe that breast size determines whether or not one gets cancer.

Finally, another myth that is associated with this disease is that it only affects older people. This is not so. Although the chance of getting breast cancer increases with age, women as young as 18 have been diagnosed with the disease.
